I encountered these cards at an Amador County winery. One of the people pouring the tastings got it out when I asked about the Semillon grape varietal, as I was not familiar with the Semillon grape. (The wine they’d made from the grape was very yummy.) Unfortunately, the winery didn’t sell the deck.
A little time noodling around on the internet the next week revealed the publisher: Ghigo Press. In addition to these cards, they offer calendars and posters all featuring the same luscious photography. I mean, really: these photos make grapes SEXY. They offer similar collections for Coffee, Spices and Jazz.
This deck is just stunning. As I say, the photographs are really gorgeous. On the reverse side is a brief description of the grape, including history, myths, science and food pairings. I couldn’t wait to lay my hands on a deck of my very own! The price is reasonable, only $15.95, plus shipping and the purchase couldn’t have been easier.

And don’t tell anybody, but I’m giving a bunch of these as gifts this year!
