Pour Me Another: An Opinionated Guide to Gold Country Wines 2011, which was published at the end of June 2011, is a personal and entertaining guide to the wines and wineries of California’s El Dorado and Amador counties. The Gold Country is easily accessed from both the San Francisco Bay Area and Reno, Nevada. There are well over 125 wineries in these two counties alone.

Pour Me Another introduces the reader to the wines and wineries in Gold Country. I discuss the wines produced in the region. The book has entries for all of the wineries and vineyards who are members of the local wine making associations. Unfortunately, there is no way I can discuss every wine produced by every winery. I feature a dozen or so wineries in each county with longer entires, offering tasting notes for several wines from each of these wineries. In addition to maps and driving tips, every winery’s entry will provide a page where the reader can jot down their own tasting notes for the wines tasted while visiting.
The book was published at the end of June 2011.

Wine 101, which will be published in early March 2011, will be an elementary introduction to wine and wine tasting. After publication of Pour Me Another, I was told, in confidence, by many people, that they drank wine, but that they felt they didn’t know enough about it to feel comfortable going wine tasting. They asked me if I would do an introduction to wine class. Well, I thought that sounded like a good idea. Wine 101 is the companion text to my introductory wine class. But you won’t have to take my class to get the benefits of the book. I will cover the basics of wine making, what wine glass to use, reading wine labels, wine tasting and some very basic principals for pairing foods with wines.

Publication of Urban Wines: An Opinionated Guide to The Bay Area’s Urban Wineries, originally planned to be published at the end of November 2011, has been rescheduled for Late August of 2012. Researching and writing Wine 101 has meant having to postpone writing and publishing the Urban Wines book. But it will be forthcoming.

In addition to the Urban Wines book, I am planning at least two more opinionated guides to other little known or otherwise neglected Northern California wine regions. Check back here for more information about these books, and when they will be published.

Congrats on the forthcoming book! Would love to discuss amazon, print on de/and, small run printers etc. My own book, moutain high wines-the sierra and its foothills, won’t be ready for a few months. No wine reviews, but rather some history, a section on geology, etc. Quite an adventure, this brave new publishing world that we are in! Cheers, Barbara Keck, wine writer-The Tahoe Weekly.
Thank you, Barbara! Congratulations on your own book. It is an exciting and interesting process, this self-publishing thing. Feel free to write me at david at opinionatedwineguide dot com to discuss the publishing stuff off line. I have a bit of experience with it already. Now, must check out your blog!
