I haven’t been writing posts ahead of my posting them. This would normally not be a problem. Until recently. You see, I occasionally suffer from gout. And the past week has been one of those occasions. Gout is an very painful inflammation of a joint, in this case where my big toe joins my foot. It is vaguely related to arthritis and is caused by a buildup of crystalized uric acid in the joint.
I say all of this, risking a “TMI” response (“too much information”), because alcohol makes the gout worse, even good alcohol like wine.
Deep sigh.
Since I am not currently drinking wine, I have little to say at the moment. I am plunging ahead finishing the book, but until the pain and swelling go down and stay down for a bit, my tasting notes will have to wait. Until such time, I’m taking anti-inflammatories, drinking lots of water and organic cherry juice and keeping my foot elevated.
There is an irony, I think, in a wine writer suffering from gout.
