It is almost Halloween. Instead of wondering about how harvest is going, or what the wine makers might be doing with their grapes to make the wines better this year than they did last year, here’s a question somebody decided needed answering:

What wine goes with what candy?

Seriously?

Is this what we’ve come to?

Other than the highly debated “red wine goes with chocolate” idea, did anybody really need to answer this question? I realize that this was probably meant to be a fun, seasonal thing. But…really?

Maybe I’m a killjoy, but pairing wine with commercial candy just smacks of lonely, guilt-ridden self-indulgence. Instead, put aside the crappy candy and the cheap grocery store wines, and get yourself a nice glass of port or brandy and savor the moment of adult bliss.
