Pour Me Another: An Opinionated Guide to Gold Country Wines

Pour Me Another is one of the highest rated books about California Wines at Amazon.com

Pour Me Another: An Opinionated Guide to Gold Country Wines 2011, which was published at the end of June 2011, is a personal and entertaining guide to the wines and wineries of California’s El Dorado and Amador counties.  The Gold Country is easily accessed from both the San Francisco Bay Area and Reno, Nevada.  There are well over 125 wineries in these two counties alone.

To read an excerpt from the book click on the “About Tasting” or “Gold Country Wines” tabs above, or on the links in this sentence.

Pour Me Another introduces the reader to the wines and wineries in Gold Country.  I discuss the wines produced in the region.  The book has entries for all of the wineries and vineyards who are members of the local wine making associations.  Unfortunately, there is no way I can discuss every wine produced by every winery.  I feature a dozen or so wineries in each county with longer entires, offering tasting notes for several wines from each of these wineries.  In addition to maps and driving tips, every winery’s entry will provide a page where the reader can jot down their own tasting notes for the wines tasted while visiting.

The book was published at the end of June 2011.

Cover for Wine 101: An Introduction to Wine and Wine TastingWine 101: An Introduction to Wine and Wine Tasting, which was published at the end of August 2012, is an elementary introduction to wine and wine tasting. After publication of Pour Me Another, I was told, in confidence, by many people, that they drank wine, but that they felt they didn’t know enough about it to feel comfortable going wine tasting. They asked me if I would do an introduction to wine class.  Well, I thought that sounded like a good idea.  Wine 101 is the companion text to my introductory wine class.  But you won’t have to take my class to get the benefits of the book. I cover the basics of wine tasting, wine making, what wine glass to use, reading wine labels, and more.

The book was published at the end of August 2012.

The cover of my Wine Journal

The cover of my Wine Journal

I am a proponent of keeping your own wine tasting notes. Doing so helps you develop your palate, improve your memory, record the wines you’ve tasted and even encourage you to drink outside of your normal comfort zone. Having used a multitude of different wine journals, both with pre-printed forms and entirely blank pages, I was frustrated with what was available. So I came up with and refined my own form.  Now you can use that form, too!

The Opinionated Wine Guide’s Wine Journal, published at the end of February 2013 features the wine tasting forms developed by the author over years of keeping his own tasting notes. Track the wines you drink, what you thought about them and how many bottles you bought all in one handy volume. With enough pages for 220 different wines, this single volume will last a long time.

Publication of Urban Wines: An Opinionated Guide to The Bay Area’s Urban Wineries, originally planned to be published at the end of November 2011, has been pushed forward again. Current work and family responsibilities are taking precedence at the moment.  But it will be forthcoming.

In addition to the Urban Wines book, I am planning at least two more opinionated guides to other little known or otherwise neglected Northern California wine regions. Check back here for more information about these books, and when they will be published.
